Photo Exhibit: The Paths We Chose: A Story of Policy, Infrastructure, and Urban Transformation
Friday September 19 – Thursday October 30
Lexington Central Library, third floor
Like most cities in the US, Lexington grew from a place where people shared roads and streets somewhat chaotically, regardless of their mode of transportation, to one where today the car dominates our streetscape. Car- and speed-centric planning of the 20th century has privileged cars to the detriment of downtown, neighborhoods, our natural environment, and our sanity. This exhibit traces how we arrived at this juncture and offers a vision of a path forward towards a more equitable transportation future. The exhibit is organized as part of the Week Without Driving campaign by Living Streets Lexington in partnership with the Lexington Public Library and the Lexington History Museum.
